Lab-Grown Diamonds

What Are Lab-Grown Diamonds? A Complete Beginner’s Guide Lab-grown diamonds , also known as synthetic diamonds, are diamonds created through scientific processes that replicate the natural formation of diamonds. Unlike mined diamonds, which take millions of years to form, lab-grown diamonds are produced in a matter of weeks. The two main methods used to create these diamonds are High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), both of which result in diamonds that are virtually indistinguishable from their natural counterparts. The Creation Process The HPHT method simulates the intense pressure and heat found deep within the Earth’s crust. A small diamond seed is placed in a chamber with carbon, which then crystallizes under high pressure and heat. On the other hand, the CVD method uses a gas mixture that is heated to create a plasma, which allows carbon atoms to bond to a diamond seed and grow into a diamond. Both methods result in diamonds that are chemi...
